SHORT ADVANCED PROGRAMME

Sustainable Footwear
Futures

Jointly organised by the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), the Polytechnic of Cávado and Ave (IPCA), and the Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK), the RUN-EU Short Advanced Programme (SAP) Sustainable Footwear Futures, is a skills enhancing and sustainable practice-based programme.

Each of the coordinators comes from a strong background in Fashion, Textile and Footwear Design.

This SAP will enable participants from Design, Fine Art and Engineering degrees to explore creative applications for regenerative fibres and digital fabrication techniques for textiles, pattern drafting, technical footwear production techniques, and innovative digital design processes.

The Limerick School of Art & Design (TUS) will lead the textile element, based on the expertise developed in Fashion and Textile Design.

IPCA will lead the digital fabrication element, and HAMK will lead the creative and technical pattern drafting and production element.

Eligible participants
RUN-EU students, postgraduates and researchers from any programme and students with Design, Fine Art & Engineering degrees.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this Short Advanced Programme, students will be able to:

  • Understand design contexts and applications relating to creative textile design processes and demonstrate how they can be applied to sustainable future footwear;
  • Demonstrate abilities in digital design techniques and virtual communications for footwear in response to design concepts;
  • Understand and apply the different approaches and methods in technical pattern drafting and assembly and utilise innovative and traditional production techniques for creative footwear prototyping.
