“Dunărea de Jos” University of Galați
Founded in 1948, the “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galați (UGAL) is the leading higher education institution in South-East Romania. With more than 14,000 students and 850 teaching staff, it combines over seven decades of academic tradition, with a strong commitment to education, research, and innovation.
UGAL brings together 15 faculties and five doctoral schools, covering a broad spectrum of disciplines from engineering, computer science, and medicine, to law, economics, arts and social sciences.
It has also developed academic branches in Italy, Moldova, and Ukraine, strengthening its cross-border engagement.
A university with a strong regional mission, UGAL maintains close ties with industry and regional stakeholders, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for the labour market while contributing to sustainable and innovative solutions. Positioned at the crossroads of East and West, it is a dynamic European university shaping the future of its community and contributing to the wider European Higher Education Area.
