Online Workshop on
Giving Good Feedback

27 February 2023

The Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) is organising an Online Workshop on Giving Good Feedback, by Dr Hugh Kearns (ThinkWell), providing the attendee with an opportunity to join a Community of Practice of Postgraduate Research Supervisors for shared learning and discovery in their supervision practice and experience.

Many graduate students cite getting and dealing with feedback from their supervisors as one of the most frustrating areas of candidature.

Feedback is essential to help the students progress and improve their output quality. So what can you, as a supervisor, do to ensure they get the feedback they need?

Online Workshop
Giving Good Feedback

22 March 2023 • 10h00-12h00 CET

This workshop will show you:

  • The benefits of positive feedback
  • The different types of feedback
  • Varying types of feedback depend on the candidate’s stage
  • Formats: hard copy, track changes, audio, face to face
  • How to provide criticism without crushing the recipient
  • Turnaround time: How long is too long for response time
  • A few pages or a whole chapter
  • When the writing/grammar/expression is bad
  • When they don’t listen to your feedback

It is open to all RUN-EU and RUN-EU PLUS research supervisors.

This training is conducted over one workshop.

Each attendee will receive a pre-workshop reading.
Participants who attend the workshop and complete a short reflective learning piece on their supervision can also be considered for a TUS Digital Badge.
