Fundamentals of Cyber Security – 3rd edition

The Short Advanced Programme (SAP) ‘Hack Your Device Fundamentals of Cyber Security’ – 3rd edition is jointly coordinated by the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (FHV), the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), the NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences (NHL Stenden), the Polytechnic University of Leiria (IPLeiria), and the Polytechnic University of Cávado and Ave (IPCA).
In this programme, the students will work in teams to perform a penetration test on an Internet of Things (IoT) device of their choice. They will learn to hack the device, using their creativity and problem-solving skills. The outcome includes a penetration test report, a presentation and a lot of fun.
This SAP covers IoT threats, detecting attacks and vulnerabilities, communicating effectively, and applying business principles to cybersecurity.
The programme requires basic computer skills and a level of comfort with technology.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this Short Advanced Programme, students will be able to:
- Gain fundamental knowledge about the Internet of Things and cyber security.
- Apply this knowledge to diagnose and investigate cyber threats related to the Internet of Things:
- Diagnose attacks on an organisation’s computer systems and networks.
- Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to detect current and future attacks on an organisation’s computer systems and networks.
- Apply business principles to analyse and interpret data for planning, decision-making, and problem-solving in an information security environment.
- Effectively communicate in a professional setting to address information security issues:
- Communicate orally and in writing, propose information security solutions to technical and non-technical decision-makers.

The selection will be based on the requirements and the submitted applications regarding motivation.
The selection team will also take steps to ensure diversity and representativeness.
