Designing STEAM Projects for Pre-University Students

The Short Advanced Programme (SAP) ‘Designing STEAM Projects for Pre-University Students’ is jointly coordinated by the University of Burgos (UBU) and the Howest University of Applied Sciences.

This SAP will address how to implement STEAM projects for pre-university students (6–17 years old). Practically, different methodologies such as Design Thinking, Engineering Design Process and Inquiry-Based Teaching will be presented. In addition, we will work on how to evaluate the projects presented. During the SAP, the development of skills for interdisciplinary teamwork will be promoted, collaborating in the design of STEAM projects that integrate different areas of knowledge.

Generally, most students will have this SAP certified in their diploma supplement, as a minimal condition.

Eligible participants
University students (level 5-8) and lecturers from RUN-EU partners with less expertise in STEAM Projects for young people (6-17 years old). Prerequisites: interest in education and working with young people (6-17 years old) in an extracurricular context; interest in any STEAM discipline.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this Short Advanced Programme, students will be able to:

  • Understand and apply STEAM methodology in educational settings, integrating science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics to foster meaningful learning
  • Identify and analyse the current interests and needs of young people and how these can be used to design engaging and relevant educational experiences
  • Design a STEAM group project, using interdisciplinary work to address complex problems creatively and collaboratively.
  • Collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions that integrate diverse areas of knowledge
  • Communicate and defend innovative ideas within STEAM Projects, arguing their relevance and viability
  • Understand the research and design learning approach by young students, and apply strategies to stimulate curiosity and willingness to learn”

Selection criteria
Order of submission, motivation, possibility to test the Steam Project in its context, wide representation of fields of study and balanced participation of RUN-EU member institutions.

The selected students will receive travel grants based on the travel distance and the subsistence costs in the country the SAP is offered in:

The subsistence grant for Spain is € 553, except for students who already come from UBU.
