Inspiring Future Teachers Through Technology and Design-Based Education
15 May 2025
Students from the teacher training programme (Pabo) at the NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in Groningen took part in the Thematic Interest Group (TIG) ‘Science, Technology and Mathematics’ during the ETEN Conference, together with a lecturer.
The first session included a presentation by the lecturer on the subject Human, Nature & Technology, the approach used in the Digital Literacy Specialist minor, and the aims of the Future Innovation Labs (FILS) within the RUN-European University, in which NHL Stenden is a partner.
The FILS aims to systematically promote STEAM activities – where science, technology and the arts come together in education – to create opportunities and encourage career paths for young people aged 6 to 17 in the region. The presentation highlighted how international challenges are integrated into the curriculum through Design-Based Education.
Students then presented the outcomes of their own projects within the themes of Human, Nature & Technology and the Digital Literacy minor.
On Friday, these presentations were repeated in the form of interactive workshops for students in the secondary technical teacher training programme at PXL University of Applied Sciences. The workshops took place at the PXL STEAM Academy.
