First RUN-EU Workshop on European Values hosted by IPCA
28 May 2024
As part of its third International Week, which took place from 20 to 24 May 2024, the Polytechnic University of Cávado and Ave (IPCA) organised the first RUN-EU ‘Workshop on European Values’.
The workshop, which took place on 21 May, was organised by IPCA’s International Office in collaboration with Europe Direct Minho. It brought together 53 participants from 22 different countries, from Europe to Asia, including around 20 teaching and non-teaching staff members from the host university.
In addition to a ‘hands-on’ general approach to EU Values, which included a puzzle, practical exercises and group discussions, the workshop also had a brief focus on the relevance of the European elections, which will take place from 6 to 9 June 2024.
The workshop was successful in enabling participants to engage in meaningful discussions on the nature and relevance of EU values considering the current geopolitical landscape in Europe and beyond.

‘This workshop had the valuable presence of academics from different countries and continents, which greatly enriched the quality of the debate, by providing a wide diversity of cultural perspectives. It was a highly enriching experience for all participants’.

‘My participation in the Workshop was very productive. The presentation by the institution was enlightening and captivating and the activities carried out during it promoted dialogue and discussion on relevant themes such as inclusion, multiculturalism and diversity as cornerstones for valuing Europe as a whole and praising European values.’

‘The workshop allowed an awareness of EU values, as universal values, promoting a space for reflection and debate on the different points of view of participants from the different countries represented. The greater contribution resulted in a more joint vision on the desire to change the paradigm of the EU’s relationship with the other continents.’
The workshops on EU Values are an integral part of the work programme of RUN-EU’s European Mobility Innovation Centre (EMIC), which aims at increasing the awareness of EU values and priorities across our European University Alliance and its mission areas of education, research, innovation, and service to society.
