Professional experience

André M. Carvalho currently works as Adjunct Professor at the Polytechnic of Cávado and Ave (Barcelos). Master (2012) in Industrial Engineering and Management from the University of Minho, he received his PhD in 2020 at the same university, under the MIT Portugal program. He was supervised by Paulo Sampaio (University of Minho) and Eric Rebentisch (MIT – Massachusetts Institute of Technology, United States). Between January and December 2020 he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Technical University of Denmark.

His research interests focus on organisations as socio-technical systems, with a focus on quality and performance, organizational culture, and agility. He has sought to identify how organizations can best adapt to respond to the challenges of the world around us, with emphasis on the sustainability of the ongoing business transitions. His research has been recognized and he has collected awards at an international level, with distinctions from organizations such as the European Organization for Quality (EOQ), International Academy for Quality (IAQ) and American Society for Quality (ASQ).
